We are a nation of animal lovers and most pet owners would agree that the benefits of having a pet more than outweigh the extra work required to look after them. There is no denying that pets are hard on your carpet. Carpet is a popular choice with pet owners because it is a non-slip surface so pets won’t hurt themselves whilst playing, it is warm and comfortable for them to lay on and it insulates and absorbs sounds.
If you are a pet owner with carpets, here are our tips to make your carpet look good for longer:
Carpet choice – it is important to select a carpet that is made from durable and stain resistant material. Carpets made from nylon fibres with a cut pile are a good choice and can be very affordable. A patterned carpet can also hide daily wear and tear!
Vacuum and clean regularly – all carpets should be vacuumed regularly to prolong their life, but this is particularly important for carpets in homes with pets. Animals don’t take their shoes off or wipe their feet when they come in, so they trail dirt into your home and hence carpets tend to get dirty quicker. And if your pet sheds, it’s a good idea to vacuum up their hair and dander.
Clean up accidents quickly – if accidents happen, rinse the area with clean cool water and then remove as much water as possible by blotting with a paper towel. Once the area is really clean use a pet odour neutraliser.
Door mats – we recommend having a mat at each entrance your pet uses to catch some of the dirt that they may bring in from outdoors.
